Ok, now that I have your attention. I’m a little uncomfortable because the last time I was amazed as to how good a team we really have, we lost to the Browns. Yet as I sit here, trying to think of something to improve…, I’m having difficulty finding something to discuss. Where is the chink in the armor? We can discuss how Manning hasn’t thrown for 200 yards nor has been much better than 52% completion percentage in the past 5 weeks…, but we’ve won! So can you really be concerned? The guy seems to come through when he needs to. We can discuss how we haven’t had much of a pass rush recently, but we’ve pretty much shut down opposing offenses during that time. We can discuss how we’re not really causing turnovers, but then Ross breaks out of his shell last week and it seems like we’re turning that corner. But still….we had a top 3 to 5 ranked defense during that time. We can discuss how we haven’t had a kicker that can kick it past the 5 on kickoffs, but who really cares when FGs have been automatic (thank you John Carney) and it’s not as if it has hurt our defense? We can discuss how there have been times where our QB seems out of sync with our receivers and how our defense has given up more 1st conversions than we would like, but really…we can’t be absolutely perfect. We can’t convert every first down nor expect a 3 and out on every defensive series. Or can we? We can discuss how Burress is nothing but an average receiver at best so far and if it weren’t for his status and more accurately, contract…Hixon should be the starter. But I wouldn’t want to upset Blueheart too much with any negative talk about a player. In his defense, he is doubled every game, but then again….he was doubled every game last year. He was also hurt every game last year and didn't practice at all. I've said my piece on this, it's because he has his money now and he's a dog, but I'll stop at that. I'm sure he'll now hang 200 yards on the Cardinals. What in the world can we improve upon??? I’m at a loss. We’re almost too good to be comfortable. I will say this, I do not like the talk about this coming game with the Cardinals – “It’s a not a big game” “Sit Jacobs, this game means nothing.” “We have the Division wrapped up” …and the such. Every game is a big game imo. Even when you’re 9-1. You need to play your best every single game. You cannot take games off or even slightly have that approach or else we will shuffle into the playoffs and get knocked out early. I just don’t like that type of talk. As far as I’m concerned, this upcoming game is as big as any game we’ve play thus far. We’re up against an offense unlike we’ve seen to this point. We have a secondary with some lingering injuries and a nickel back who is very green in Thomas. Webster and Ross can easily have a setback during the game and that means Thomas and Madison will be defending the best group of WRs in the game. This game is NOT a gimmee and it DOES matter. So that’s my angle this week. We can very well lose this game and lose our mojo. Let’s not allow that to happen. I’m sure Coughlin is building this game up as the biggest test of the year and he probably should be. So what can we improve upon? |

First, biteme. Second, I don't like the idea of people thinking it's a "gimme" or that we should take a "meh" attitude towards this game, either. The NFC is pretty goddamn strong. Any loss could be bad.. very bad. I also don't like the media proclaiming us the best team in the league. As I've said before, and will say again, it gives me the fucking creeps. |

True. Jacobs sucks. He's too big to be a productive RB. |

Here's something else, we're doomed. “You’ll be quite surprised that I did not know that there was (only one overtime in the NFL),” Danny Clark said. “I did not. I’d be lying if I told you that I did. I had no idea. At the end of the day I haven’t seen a tie since I’ve been in the league. And it’s happened. I didn’t know it. I didn’t know that there were ties in this league. I just always knew that there was a winner and a loser in a National Football League game and that’s quite surprising to me.” |

I must have missed the over-confident, "no big game" attitude towards the Cardinals. Haven't seen or heard that at all. Can't say being in favor of resting BJ, which I am, when we've got proven horses in the stable to saddle up, is evidence of that attitude. It could prove disastrous if the Giants went into the game feeling that way, as Phoenix is a very formidible foe. The Cards are 2nd in total offense (393/gm to NY 373), averaging six yds/play (NY: 5.8). They're 2nd in total pass offense (305/gm to NY 199), 2nd in team receiving (12yds/rcpt to NY 11), and feature two wideouts (Fitzgerald 4th, Boldin 6th) among the top ten in the League. We've all heard the rumblings about Kurt Kristian potentially being on his way to another League MVP. His stat line is off the charts, completing passes at a 71% clip, averaging 316 yds/gm, throwing for 20 TDs, with 33 passes of 20+ yards, and 8 of more than 40. His QB rating is 106. He has been sacked 18 times. Now, that's not Roethlisbergerian (32), but he is among the 13th most sacked starting QBs in the NFL. We all know all too well that Warner should be prey for the taking by NY's front four. Compare Eli: 60% completion percentage, averaging 208 yds/gm, with 15 TDs with 24 tosses of more than 20 yards but only 1 of at least 40. His QB rating is a paltry 88. He's only been sacked 12 times. ARI's sack defense is 11th in the League (23tot/2.3/gm). The Cardinals are deficient in the rushing game, whether because they have embraced a "pass first" personality on offense, or because their two top backs are simply not that good. EJ is but a shell of his Indy incarnation, ranked 38th in the League, with 12 touches a game, for 3.5/carry and 42/game yard averages. His longest carry of the year is 16 yards. I don't get the buzz over Hightower, ranked 57th, who carries the ball and average of 10 times a game, for 3.1/carry and 30/game yard averages, respectively. He does have 7 TDs to James' 3, but only one rush of more than 20 yards. On defense, the Cardinals are good, but not remotely "Giants good." Phoenix is 11th in total D, yielding 300 yds/gm, at a 5.3 yd/play clip. Their rush D is 7th overall, holding opposing ballcarriers to 90 yds/gm on a 3.8 yd/play average. Their pass D is 16th, yielding 210 yds/game, 7.3 yds/pass, and 19 TDs. Keep in mind the teams they've amassed those stats against: 1 Sep 07 ARI 23 @ SF 13 2 Sep 14 MIA 10 @ ARI 31 3 Sep 21 ARI 17 @ WAS 24 4 Sep 28 ARI 35 @ NYJ 56 5 Oct 05 BUF 17 @ ARI 41 6 Oct 12 DAL 24 @ ARI 30 7 Oct 26 ARI 23 @ CAR 27 8 Nov 02 ARI 34 @ STL 13 9 Nov 10 SF 24 @ ARI 29 11 Nov 16 ARI 26 @ SEA 20 What does it all mean, Basil? To me, it means that it is time to loose the hounds. No more of this "Well, we had to key on stopping _____________ out of the backfield, so naturally the sack totals have been down." ARI doesn't have a back NY needs to prioritize or gameplan around. Neither EJ nor Hightower are going to take their team on their backs and beat the Giants. Spags should channel his inner Buddy Ryan and Jimmy Johnson, and bring the boys from everywhere, and all angles, all...day...long. If they don't get to Kurt, he'll re-expose Ross, and KP's youth, and make it a very long afternoon for Big Blue. Take them lightly? I don't think so. The Giants' offense should be its efficient, balanced self against a fair-to-middlin' D that hasn't seen remotely the likes of what's coming at them on Sunday. Run, run, run. Take a few shots. Run some more. Keep Warner on the sideline. Giants 42 Cardinals 24 Edited by 12C, Nov 19 2008, 11:34 PM.
