Plax, Jacobs could play if minds are "right"

Plaxico Burress is “questionable” for Sunday’s game and is taking a “cautious” approach to his injured right hamstring. Meanwhile, Brandon Jacobs is “probable” and his knee appears ready to go.

So both could be in the lineup against the Cardinals on Sunday — if, Tom Coughlin said, “they are in the right frame of mind.”

What that means is anybody’s guess. Coughlin explained that the definition of “right frame of mind” is that “they’re anxious and obviously excited about the opportunity and all that goes into play a game - playing with your heart.” But when he was asked if maybe that shouldn’t be a question heading into Week 12, Coughlin cut the questions off.

“Don’t make a big deal out of that,” Coughlin said. “I’m not commenting on that. All I’m saying is if the medical people say that the guys can play, OK, then there will be some strong consideration that they would play.”

So it appears that health apparently will not be the sole consideration about whether either Burress or Jacobs — or possibly both — suit up on Sunday. And of course, given his history of missing treatments, meetings and generally breaking rules, the suspicion was that Coughlin was talking about Burress, even though there’s currently no evidence that Burress (or Jacobs, for that matter) broke any team rules this week.

What is clear is that Burress wants to be very careful with his recovery from his hamstring pull - something which also could’ve drawn Coughlin’s ire, since he usually wants his players to push through pain.

“A hamstring is one of those things where if it’s not feeling well and you can’t run, you can’t run,” Burress said. “It’s not something you can cover up or anything like that. It’s one of those things that makes my body go. If it’s not able to do the things that I’m capable of going out and doing it’s going to be very obvious.

“My goal is to go out and play. But if I can’t go and I’m not ready to go, then I won’t go.”

Burress missed his second straight day of practice today and said his hamstring injury wasn’t serious, but he was “a little sore.”

“I’ve jogged and done some things,” he said. “But it’s a different ball game when you’re out there making some moves.”

Jacobs a 'Yes', Burress a 'Maybe'

It looks like RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) will play in today’s game against the Cardinals here in Glendale, Ariz. Meanwhile, the Giants seem hopeful that WR Plaxico Burress (hamstring) will play, but that decision won’t be made until after pre-game warm-ups.

At the moment, all I can tell you about Burress is that he sure sounded like he preferred the cautious approach to his hamstring this week, but that the Giants preferred to push him along as fast as possible. (Perhaps that explains why Tom Coughlin said earlier this week that his injured players could play ” ‘if they are in the right frame of mind.’ “). If he warms up and he’s fine, I’d imagine he’ll play. But don’t be surprised if he’s a bit limited.

Meanwhile, the Giants could limit Jacobs carries too, given their depth at running back. But nobody’s telling me anything other than he’ll play, which is hardly a surprise given that he’s listed as “probable.”

This was quite a stunner but RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) is inactive today. It must have even shocked FOXSports Jay Glazer, who was the first to report Jacobs wouldn't play after reporting earlier in the day he would.

According to a team spokesman, coach Tom Coughlin felt Jacobs might not have been able to make it through a whole game and the team has other options in Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw.

If he didn't know he could make it through, that sounds like there was a "question" in his mind. And if so, shouldn't Jacobs have been listed as "questionable?" Sounds like a good question to me.

WR Plaxico Burress (hamstring) is active and K Lawrence Tynes is not, meaning John Carney will kick. Here's your entire inactive list:

K Lawrence Tynes
S Sammy Knight
RB Brandon Jacobs
CB Sam Madison
LB Gerris Wilkinson
OL Adam Koets
WR Mario Manningham
DE Jerome McDougle

And thanks for telling me NOW that my FF week is startingand I already declared Jacobs as a starter :irked: :irked: :irked:
And unlike other years ,I don't have a firstround bye :irked:
I think my league allows me to automaticly insert the 3rd string back(Forte) in these cases as long as my statrer is a last second scratch

I have to say this pleases me. I only wish Plax was also on the inactive list.

Even without Jacobs the Giants still should have enough to defeat Arizona. As someone said (wish I can remember where I heard it) by the end of the season the Giants would have played 13 weeks in a row. That's a ton of wear and tear.

So my feeling is that giving Jacobs a week off isn't going to hurt the effort in the long run.

Agreed. I don't like it, because it gets my mind going to places I don't want it to, but, I have full faith in Ward and Bradshaw to get the job done.

Rest the big guy, let the "little" whippersnappers do their thing, and he'll be a little fresher for the SuperBowl.

I mean...playoffs. :giggle:
