Let me tell you something, pendejo.

Coughlin said Brandon Jacobs, whose knee injury kept him on the sideline in the second half yesterday, was to undergo an MRI today.

“There is a little swelling,” Coughlin said. “He is walking really well. They are going to do all of the tests. But hopefully we can get this under control.”

Jacobs said after the game he could have played if needed. But Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw combined for 98 yards in the second half.

“He came out and was ready to go,” Coughlin said of Jacobs. “But we wanted to make sure exactly what this is and so we were cautious.”

Coughlin is hopeful that Jacobs will play this week in Arizona, but the head coach believes the running game will continue to produce if Ward and Bradshaw have to carry the load.

“I think that those two athletes …have proven that,” Coughlin said. “We have had three guys that, when given the opportunity, have done a good job with their opportunities. We secured the ball better yesterday against a team that goes after the ball. So I felt better about that. And given the chance to go forward and perform, the guys did a good job. We have been down this road before and hopefully this is not going to keep Brandon out at all. But we have some people that are prepared.”

It's only Monday, but right now I'm thinking not even allowing him to get on the plane to Arizona.

Keep him home.

Let Ward & Bradshaw carry the load and bring in Droughns for the 3rd back if needed.

No need risking anything...........especially further injury.

To me, Jacobs is a key player, and his injury is bad news .... But I think we have a very viable alternative, which may well enough to cover his absence. So I think that if you must recover 100%, it is better to leave it at home Sunday and exploit the alternatives and then reclaim in full form next week :)

if we have to look on the bright side of this injury to Jacobs it is that we have people behind him who can come in and play at a high level and most likely our running game won't miss a beat ..

From Ralph V's blog in todays Daily News:

UPDATE: Jacobs’ knee isn’t hampering his ability to bounce from media outlet to media outlet this morning (apparently he’s promoting some video game thing). Earlier today he appeared on The Opening Drive on Sirius NFL Radio and confirmed that the injury is similar to the sprained MCL he suffered against Dallas last year.

“I feel pretty good,” Jacobs said, when asked about the status of his knee. “I feel way better than I felt Sunday after the game. I did the same thing I did against Dallas last year, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was then. I’ll be fine. It’s my call and we’ll be all right.”

Odd that he said “It’s my call” only to change his tune an hour later on ESPN when he said “I don’t know if (the Giants will) let me play.” Makes you wonder if someone got to him in the interim and told him it really wasn’t his call.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs had a precautionary MRI exam on his knee, although coach Tom Coughlin said he didn't think Jacobs had a serious injury.

Watch highlights from the New York Giants 30-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The Star Ledger of Newark, N.J., citing a source familiar with the results of the MRI exam, reported that Jacobs has no structural damage in his knee.

"Nothing serious," the source told the newspaper. "Just swollen and sore."

Jacobs gained 73 yards on 11 carries in the 30-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens that raised New York's record to 9-1. He left the game in the second quarter and returned for just two carries in the third as Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw took over. They helped the Giants rush for 207 yards against a team that had been leading the league in rushing defense, allowing just 65 yards per game.

"There is a little swelling, he is walking really well," Coughlin said of Jacobs, fourth in the NFL with 879 yards rushing. "They are going to do all of the tests. But hopefully we can get this under control."

Asked which knee it was, Coughlin replied: "If you don't know which one it was, I'm not telling you."

Cornerback Aaron Ross, who had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, also underwent an MRI exam on his hamstring. Coughlin said Ross had aggravated an injury he had earlier in the year.

Both Jacobs and Ross said after the game that they could have returned to the game if needed.

Giants | Jacobs MRI results
Mon, 17 Nov 2008 20:42:37 -0800

Updating a previous item, Mike Garafolo, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports an MRI on New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) revealed no structural damage, according to a source.

Giants | Jacobs may not play in Week 12
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 13:46:19 -0800

Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) may not play in the team's Week 12 game if the Giants want to be cautious with him. "I could line up and go play on Sunday if our team has a serious need of a running back. But as everyone knows, they're not. We have a stable of horses lined up and ready to go. So I could play if I wanted to and I needed to but I don't know if they'll let me," Jacobs said.

Jacobs ready to go "full speed" tomorrow

Brandon Jacobs said his injured left knee is pain free and he’ll be practicing “full speed” tomorrow.

The big running back said the Giants held him out today for “precautionary” reasons only. And while he admitted he still has to see how his knee responds before he commits to playing on Sunday, he seemed to think he’ll be good to go.

“Last time I had this injury I couldn’t walk,” Jacobs said. “This is just a little nagging thing. I don’t think it’ll keep me out.”

Jacobs wouldn’t say what the injury was specifically, but his reference to “last time” indicates it might be a sprained MCL, which is what he suffered in his right knee in last year’s season opener. That time he ended up missing the next three games.

This time, though, it doesn’t appear nearly as serious.

“There isn’t any pain in the knee and I don’t feel restricted,” he said. “I could’ve (practiced) if I needed to. I’m just taking it precautionary today, but I’ll be out there full-speed tomorrow.

“I feel good, to be honest with you.”

Also, CB Aaron Ross said his hamstring is just “a little sore” and he was held out for “precautionary” reasons, too.

Jacobs at practice, Plax on the side

Brandon Jacobs was out at practice today, but Plaxico Burress was on the sideline riding the exercise bike.

That would make two straight days of missed practices for Burress, who is nursing a strained hamstring. He is expected (required, actually) to address the media later today, so hopefully I’ll have some more information for you then.

Meanwhile, although Jacobs was dressed and participating in some drills, Derrick Ward was working with the first-team offense when they were walking through some early plays against the scout team. I’m guessing he’ll end up being limited today. He did do some individual drills (before the rest of practice was closed to the media), lightly jogging and catching passes from P Jeff Feagles with the rest of the running backs.

Meanwhile, here’s something else interesting about Jacobs and his knee:

He’s wearing a brace on his right knee, not his left.

It’s pretty well-hidden under his baggy sweats, but you could see the unmistakable outline of some sort of contraption on his right knee when he bent his leg. That’s interesting, because it has been assumed by many of us that he hurt his left knee on Sunday against Baltimore when he took a hit on it on his second touchdown run.

However, during his Tuesday media tour to promote some video game, Jacobs said several times that he hurt his knee when he landed on it - not when he was hit. He also has said several times that his injury is the same one he suffered in the opener last year.

After he was hit on his left knee on that touchdown run, he did land on his right knee (I think). And the injury from last year was a sprained MCL in his right knee, which kept him out for three weeks.

I suppose in the big picture it doesn’t matter if it’s right or left - though the right would be slightly more concerning since he’s had previous issues in that knee. What’s important is whether he plays, and that’s not clear yet.

By the way, the only other person on the exercise bike today was S Sammy Knight (hip). Everyone else seemed ready to work at least a little.
