Has anyone tried to do the Excalibur II challenge? I was doing it then I forgot about it and erased the file... I was only in Evil forest with 20 minutes on the clock. For those who think they can reset the in-game clock.... PHHT HAHAHA! It doesn't work... The clock turns red at 100 hours and stays that way. So congratulations lazy people. The only way you can obtain this weapon is by getting to Memoria and killing Lich before 12 hours of gameplay. |

I have not, i will prolly never get it or try - i know my self id start out good, then get distracted or get caught up in cards, i like to take my time in games smell the roses, i prolly get more sidetracked in game stuff not actually meant for the main story line then playing the game thru |

I tried but spent most of the time playing cards, first five hours of being Vivi was playing all the people in town, one of the things I really enjoy about the game is the cards. ^_^' |

I haven't tried it and don't think I ever will as in order to get the sword I would have to skip so much of the game and with RPGs I like to take my time to read every speech bubble, find everything and do all there is to do. I guess I may eventually try a speed-run, but only after I do one for VII. |

I don't think I'll ever try this. I often struggled with some of the harder battles on my first time through, and I'm sure, as this method would require a lot of running from battles instead of fighting, that this run through would make fighting those battles longer and harder. |

I feel like a loser because I know this game by heart lol so I pretty much know every line and I've done every sidequest except the Excalibur II challenge. I'm seriously thinking of trying it. FF9 is my favorite game of all time so I play it at least once a year, start to finish, changing teams to see different reactions. |

You don't have to feel like a loser here, my friend. We've all done that with a Final Fantasy at some point, I think. Or most of us anyway. And at least you only feel the need to play FFIX once a year. I always must play VII-X through once each year. Its a compulsion of sorts I think. And no other games I've played really have come close to these |

Your not a loser...A loser is somebody who spends 40+ hours training in the starting area of final fantasy 7 just so she can kill that stupid scorpion with one meteorain... *clears throat* Anyways, this is probably the only challenge from final fantasy i've completed shyed away from. I hate the idea of rushing through RPG's, even if i've played the game 20 times I still want to watch and enjoy the story as I go along... |

By the way guys, if you go for 100% completion, the game clock resets at 100 hours. So just keep playing and you'll be able to get the Excalibur 2. Or thats what I've heard, I'm at like 80 hours. |

I can totally 100% verify that it doesn't work. I spent a lot of time playing cards and accidentally went afk for 3 days and killed Lich on 110 hours which showed as a red 10 hours. I had everything else completed but alas no sword. When I read tips on doing this I was really put off on doing it. I don't want to run away from battles, I don't want to open my disc cover to skip the FMVs thus I've never tried a speed run on this. |

I thought it was anywhere under 12 hours? Seemingly if you're there when the clock resets the ? pops up and you can get it, you dont have to beat the lich on under 12 hours. Also, easy on the tone bro, I'm just repeating what I've heard. I'm not calling anyone a liar or claiming omniscience. |

Sorry if I came off to be an ass, but dude, comeon! That smelled like shit a mile away. ANYWAY! I'm doing it! I'm attempting the Excalibur II challenge. Things you gotta do for this... You must skip dialogue No ATE's Very little time to shop and you'll be doing it for potions and phoenix downs Hardly any leveling up No sidequests No Blue Magic Hardly any Stealing Make battles quick or run away Must skip ATM's Cannot fight in the Festival of the Hunt No Stelazzio Coin collecting No Auction house Can't fight monster in Weapon Shop Right now, I am 3 and a half hours into the game and at Disk 2, right before I jump onto the Gargant in Treno. Current Stats of all characters, it's hard for me to check stats because I can't waste time, I auto-equip because I need the best stuff. I would think that Black Waltz No. 1 and Sealion would be the toughest boss but nope, Gizamaluke and Beatrix are 10 times tougher. One really good thing is when I fought Gizamaluke (SO HARD IF YOU'RE LOW LEVELED), Zidane stole the Ice Staff right off the bat so Vivi can use Blizzara and most enemies in Burmecia are weak to Ice. Zidane- Level 10 (The Ogre, Really good against Gizamaluke) Vivi- Level 10 (Ice Staff, THANK YOU LADY LUCK) Freya- Level 9 (Mythril Spear, Reis's Wind really helpful) Steiner- Level 4 (Mythril Sword, usually have Blood Sword but no Stellazio quest so no sword) Dagger- Level 4 (Mythril Rod, try to at least learn Life) Marcus- Level 4 (Initial Equipment, not wasting money on Marcus) I have not gotten Quina yet because it would waste time when going to Gizamaluke's Grotto. I already had 2 hours and twenty minutes on the clock. The max hours into each disk is 3 hours, if you're over that you're screwed. Fossil Roo is going to hurt BAD. I've gotta map out the area before entering or I'm screwed. Another big problem is getting Eiko and Amarant. Eiko will not learn most of her magic or summons and Amarant will not be very good because I'd do the chocobo quest and have him know No Mercy by the beginning of Disk 3, plus he'd have a pair of Kaiser Knuckles before Oeilvert to kick Ark's ass. Steiner I feel I will never use again because I can't waste time leveling him up. Same goes for Freya. Quina will be utter trash aside from learning Millionaire which will help me get extra cash from the fights I haven't skipped. Eiko might replace Dagger because she learns Curiga and other better spells by the middle of Disk 3 while Dagger learns Curiga by Disk 4 unless you do the Chocobo quest... Amarant will be my physical maniac (He usually is but this time, he's No Merciless but he does have Aura which is a life saver as well as Revive), because Steiner and Freya's levels are so low and Vivi will be there because he's with the main party from Disk one to disk three so he'll be a level lower than Zidane plus you can't go wrong with Vivi. Dammit, I feel like I'm killing myself with this challenge... Edited by Amarant, 24 Aug 2009, 05:29 AM.
